About

Deaf Spectrum is a Deaf-owned business dedicated to artistic, cultural, and sign language accessibility.

Founded in 2015 by Sage Lovell (they/she), a neurodivergent, queer Deaf artist, educator, and entrepreneur, Deaf Spectrum was established to bridge between the hearing (non-deaf) and Deaf communities to identify the gaps in sign language accessibility. What began as a grassroots initiative quickly grew into a platform for advocacy, artistic experiences, cultural exchange, sign language accessibility, creativity, storytelling, and connection.

Since its founding, Deaf Spectrum has coordinated access, provided workshops and training, mentored emerging artists, created hundreds of sign language vlogs and media works aimed at increasing accessibility, visibility, and awareness of Deaf culture and experiences. Over the years, Deaf Spectrum has evolved into a multifaceted arts and cultural business rooted in sign language accessibility.

Today, Deaf Spectrum serves Deaf and Disabled artists, Deaf and Disabled audiences, arts and cultural organizations across Canada. Through creative media, accessible consultation, and community-centred practices, Deaf Spectrum works to reshape how accessibility is understood and implemented in the arts.

At its core, Deaf Spectrum is a creative accessibility hub committed to bridging Deaf culture, ASL, and the arts; empowering Deaf storytellers and creatives, and creating a more inclusive cultural landscape.
