Breaking and Becoming: a celebration of QTBIPOC performance
Hosted by Marvellous Grounds
Art and culture have always been ways through which QTBIPOC (queer and trans Black, Indigenous and people of colour) communities manifest, bond, heal, demand, and fight. Join Marvellous Grounds for an afternoon of QTBIPOC performances and readings. Afterwards, stay for a roundtable discussion and Q&A focusing on what it means to be QTBIPOC artists in Toronto, and how QTBIPOC use performance to take up, resist, and transform white heteronormative spaces. Our marvellous line up includes performances by Cherish Violet Blood, Patrick Salvani, Shaunga Tagore, and Kai Cheng Thom, a reading from Rahim Thawer, and a sacred sound meditation + ceremony offered by Maan-i-fest (nisha ahuja + MeLisa (Jet Feather) Moore).
Date: April 21st, 2018 (Saturday)
Time: 2:30-5:00pm (Doors open at 2pm)
Location: Glad Day Bookshop (wheelchair accessible)
ASL interpretation Provided
Marvellous Grounds is a book and web-based project that seeks to document and create space to vision the ways that QTBIPOC create communities, innovate projects and foster connections within Toronto/Three Fires Territories and beyond. This collection brings together art, writing and research that engages with space-making and is in the service of community building.
See you there!
